The article is dedicated to the analysis of the penetration of Russians into the Caspian Sea region. The variability of history is investigated, different sides of military-political and ethnocultural interaction of the peoples of Caspian region in the X century are examined. Special attention is paid to the questions of the genesis of elites and their geopolitical predilections.
