This work explores one of the most poorly studied aspects of Russian Arctic research: Muslim development in the regions of the rapidly changing Russian North. The concept of the “new Muslin geography of Russia” is introduced in the article to describe how the emergence and development of new Islamic areas occurs. In order to come closer to a better understanding of the described processes, the author turns to the concept of “transgression”. This concept is able to explain the dynamics of post-Soviet Islamic development in various regions: from metropolitan centres to Muslim republics, from interstate borders to the polar tundra. The study focuses on the territorial case of the Arctic as the most obvious empirical examples of Muslim transgression.
