The book of P. Norris and R. Inglehart is one of the largest works devoted to a comprehensive analysis of the phenomenon of far right or authoritarian populism in Western countries. The authors propose a “general theory” of authoritarian populism based on the previous theoretical constructions of R. Inglehart on post - materialism and “silent revolution”. The economic, demographic, cultural prerequisites and limitations of the modern upsurge of authoritarian populism are revealed.
