The concept of the duty of memory, reflecting the modern discourse of the present, asking about the past, is firmly rooted in the social fabric of the turn of the XX-XXI centuries.It is a kind of appeal to all those who died in the terrible conflicts of the past century - a call for peace and the hope that hard memories of the past will help to avoid hardships in the future. It should, however, be borne in mind that this concept has other - primarily political - aspects. Its use allows the modern state at the discursive level to respond to new socio-political demands, supporting public institutions that advocate recognition of the suffering of innocent victims. In addition, at the socio-political level, the concept of memory debt corresponds to a new understanding of group identity.
