It is indicated that the estimates of the uprising in the works of historians differ under the influence of ideology: 1920-1930es; 1950-1980es and 1990-2019es. Each era has made its own adjustments in the assessment of the uprising. The estimates of the previous authors on the history of the uprisings in the Khiva khanate and the Amu Darya Department of 1916 are summarized. It is emphasized that almost all the authors agree that the uprising in the Khiva khanate differs in composition, purpose and course from the uprising in the Amu Darya Department. Summarizing different assessments and views on the uprising, the author emphasizes that a less objective assessment of the uprising can be made on the basis of re-introduction of new archival documents into scientific circulation. Memos of the leaders of the Amu Darya Department of Turkestan region shed new data to reassess the uprising in the national historiography.
