In the article, the Caspian region becomes the subject of scientific analysis, as one key area for Great Britain during the XIX-XX centuries. The argument is based on the fact that after the collapse of the USSR, a vacuum of force was formed on the territory of independent Caspian states, which marked the beginning of a new period of the "big game". The authors reveal the specifics of this period and substantiate the very idea that such a period of "big game" generally takes place. Based on the analysis of the English sources, it is proved that, despite the generally accepted opinion, rivalry in the Caspian region in the 21st century is much more complicated than the confrontation between the two great powers (the Russian Empire and Great Britain) in the past. Specificity of this moment is that at the present stage of historical development, many actors are fighting for the region, including extra-regional and regional forces, as well as oil corporations and international financial institutions.
