Annotation

In the modern situation of fragmentation of foreign policy due to the processes of globalization and regionalism new actors appear in international relations - they are sub-national actors, i.e. inner national regions and cross-border regions. Taking into consideration the importance of integration processes, the authorities of cross-border regions strive to strengthen regional integration. Cross-border cooperation serves as the initial level of inter-state cooperation. There are several models and forms of cross-border cooperation which are stipulated by regional, Political Science, economic and functional peculiarities of regions. The European and the Asian models are the most widely used models of cross-border cooperation. The European model is the basis of integration processes in Europe and is carried out in the form of Euroregions. The Asian model is the integration of markets of East Asian countries and is based on the principle of mutual complementation of economic systems of the countries involved. The effectiveness of this or that model depends on a number of criteria which are important in defining the most important characteristic features to serve as the basis of integration processes in other regions of the world.
