To date, the uncertainty of the status of the Caspian Sea is one of the few cases in the international legal practice, where de jure against reservoir continue to apply the provisions of earlier agreements, but de facto legal status is no longer able to fully regulate relations coastal States. And although in recent years in the five-sided format was signed a number of important international legal instruments to protect the marine environment of the Caspian, but a breakthrough in the final settlement of the main issue of the definition of the legal status of the Caspian Sea is still there.
